To mark Prostate Cancer UK 25th anniversary and all that has been achieved within this time Rotary Watches will launch a limited edition 1IN8 chronograph watch featuring the famous Man of Men icon. But Georgia’s senior nose tackle was not on the 80-man watch list released in the preseason, nor was any Georgia defensive player. Rotary Watches stands united with Prostate Cancer UK. This year it’s going back to the original criteria, and Davis would seem to be an obvious candidate, let alone favorite. The most recent official winner of the award was Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen in 2016, before the award was changed to “Lombardi Honors” and went away from the criteria and selection process. First some background: The Lombardi Award has been given out since 1970, the year its namesake died, and while offensive linemen are eligible it has often been won by a defensive player: David Pollack in 2004, for instance, and numerous interior defensive linemen: Ndamukong Suh (2009), Nick Fairley (2010) and Aaron Donald (2013). What happened? The answer may have to do with one of those preseason “watch lists,” which usually mean little, but in this case, may have meant a lot. And yet when the 14 semifinalists were revealed for the Lombardi Award - which goes to the top front-seven defender or offensive lineman - Davis and the Bulldogs were shut out. Georgia has the best defense in the country, perhaps the best college football has seen in a long time, and defensive tackle Jordan Davis is getting mentions for the Heisman Trophy.
